Chittagong Port, The Biggest Seaport of Bangladesh:
At the river mouth of the Karnaphuli, the Chittagong port is situated.
It has a recorded history from 9th century. Right now this is the main seaport
of Bangladesh and very important one in south-east Asia.
Patenga Beach:
By a smooth road of 22km Patenga beach is connected with Chittagong
city. It is one of a major attractions for tourists in Chittagong. Besides the
beach activities boating and river cruise can enjoy here. Busy seaport activities
also seen from the shore of river Karnophuly. Early evening is the most enjoyable
time at Patenga beach.
Ethnological Museum of Bangladesh:
Chittagong ethnological museum is a treasure house of a variety of
tribal life, culture and heritage of Bangladesh. This museum located in Agrabad
at the heart of Chittagong city. It is the must visit place for foreign tourists.
Second World War Cemetery:
There are 755 graves of British, Australian, Canadian, New Zealander,
Indian, Burmese, East and West African solders in this graveyard who died d
in Second World War in Chittagong areas. This well-preserved cemetery is a quiet
and picturesque place within the city. Every year a number of tourists come
here to visit this Cemetery.
Shrine of Saintt Hazrat Bayezead Bostami:
Saint Hazrat Bayezead Bostami was very famous among the all Muslim
saints who came in Bangladesh to spread the religion of Islam. His shrine is
located in Chittagong city. He came to Chittagong region in 10th Century.
In the Dighi in the Shrine you can also visit the ancient rare variety of Turtles.
This shrine attracts a large number of visitors and pilgrims. Tradition has
it that these animals are the descendants of the evil spirits (genii) who were
cast into this shape because they incurred the wrath of the great saint who
visited the place about 1100 years age.
Shrine of Saint Shah Amanat:
The Shrine of Shah Amanat located in the heart of Chittagong city and
one of a attractive religious place. Every day a number of people visit this
shrine who pay homage to the memory of the saint.
Fays Lake & Zoo:
Fays Lake located in Pahartoli a satellite town of Chittagong. This is a manmade
lake, a beautiful natural tourist spot of Chittagong, where you can enjoy boating
and also you can spend your leisure time in a serene atmosphere of lake and
hills. Now there is a modern theme park has established here. Also the Chittagong
zoo is at the adjacent place of Fays Lake.
Court Building Museum:
This court building is use now as a museum. This building commands a panoramic
bird's eye view of Chittagong; situated on the Fairy Hill. During the independence
War in 1971 it had been the scene of intense activity.
Zia Memorial Museum:
Previous Chittagong Circuit house is now known as Zia memorial Museum. Zia-ur
Rahman the former President of Bangladesh a renowned freedom fighter of liberation
war was killed by a group of disgruntled army personnel. To keep this great
man’s contribution in the people hearts, the Circuit house was renamed
as Zia Memorial museum. Here we can find the late president’s material
which he used in a daily basis.
Parki Beach:
Parki Beach is located about 17 km from Chittagong city situated in Anwara Thana
under the Southern Chittagong region. Visitors can view both the Karnafuli River
and the sea together from this beach. The beach has a quiet and peaceful vibe
to it as tourists can enjoy watching big ships anchored at the outer dock, fishermen
catching fish in sea, sunset, and various colored crabs.
Shitakundo
Famous for the Chandranath Temple and the Buddhist Temple; Shitakundo is located
37 km away from Chittagong city. It is said to have the footprint of Lord Buddha.
Tourists are attracted to Shitakundo for its scenic setting and particularly
because these hilltops are regarded as very sacred both by the Buddhists and
Hindus. Siva-chaturdashi festival is held every year in February when thousands
of pilgrims assemble for the celebrations, which last about ten days. There
is a salt-water spring 5 km. to the north of Shitakunda, known as Labanakhya.
